How do i update mapsource

What do I need to do to have it updated? I understand that I cannot use this Lifetime subscription for the other NT compatible unit I have, and am not trying to steal software. Thanks, George. So you are saying that even though the "free" update was to both Mapsource and the Nuvi, nuMaps Lifetime is strictly to the unit Hope you aren't offended when I ask whether you've changed the in use map set in MapSource on the tool bar.

I've found that I usually have to change to the new map set in MapSource after installing a new set. Garmin changes its Map upgrade procedure some time ago. And as you will guess, the GPS only is the default.

As far as I know your download is available for some time. So upgrade again, this time PC only. Nope, I never mind being told that I missed something. Garmin only provides updates, no actual installation packages. Therfore below I describe two ways how you can install Mapsource legally nevertheless. I recommend to use the most uptodate version by Garmin as of writing this is 6. Earlier versions of Mapsource also 6.

Use at least 6. Note that while Basecamp shows contourlines, Garmin Mapsource doesn't. Hence for general use I recommend Garmin Basecamp instead.

I recommend installing a second map good idea is to install the map legend so you can get to know the layout!!! Essentially 1 map would be enough also. Please update to at least 6. Simply unpack a mapsource update see links above , run MAIN. Now you can decide which of the two versions you want to use.

I am a bit confused, you mention basecamp 4. Oh yeah — got confused with the OSx version which is 4. You must be logged in to post a comment. Please support Openmtbmap by donating a few bucks. Install Garmin Basecamp and maybe Mapsource. Contents 1 Install Garmin Basecamp: 1. Hans Riethmann. Maybe we'll both get an answer here. I have MapSource installed on both my laptop and desktop computer.

To get MapSource updated on both computers, I ran the map update on the laptop as well as on the desktop computer, even though it was already installed in the Nuvi. In the Nuvi, it just overwrote the existing map a second time - no harm there. But the process also installed the new map in MapSource. Thanks, John, come to think of it, I vaquely remember while installing Afterwards, I did not see any trace of it on the PC.

After a map update with no previous version of mapsource installed mapsource ended up in the Garmin folder and also in the start up menu under Garmin.
